Tasting Notes

This elegant rosé presents itself with a captivating pale salmon hue, reminiscent of a sunny afternoon with its vibrant and refreshing profile. On the nose, it delights with a lively bouquet of tangerine and candied orange peel, evoking a sense of freshness and playfulness. The palate greets you with bright and zesty acidity, which beautifully complements the delicate stone fruit flavors of ripe yellow peaches.

Food Pairing Notes

Pairs splendidly with Moroccan spiced lamb, where its candied orange peel and ripe peach notes meld with the dish’s robust spices and textures.

Vineyard Notes

The warm, long growing season in the Santa Ynez Valley of Santa Barbara County is about as Provençal as it gets in California. Camp 4 Vineyard was planted to Rhone varietals by Fess Parker and is now owned by the Chumash Indian tribe. It has become one of the top sources for Rhone grapes in the Santa Ynez Valley. The vineyard is planted on sandy loam soils, ideal for these naturally vigorous varietals, and experiences cool afternoon breezes blowing east from the Pacific through the Santa Rita Hills.

The grapes for our Rosé of Carignan are hand-picked and sorted in the cool of the early morning. They are whole cluster pressed to neutral French oak barriques using a very gentle press program similar to what is used in Champagne. Allowed to ferment with indigenous yeasts and put through partial malolactic fermentation, this wine is aged on lees for six months with periodic bâtonnage to promote richness and complexity.
