At Chamisal Vineyards, we have a storied legacy of making some of the finest Pinot Noir in San Luis Obispo County. The cool climate and soils of our estate vineyard have made it a premier site to grow exceptional and distinctive Pinot Noir that is often characterized by our signature “Chamisal Spice.”
Pinot Noir is a delicate variety that is open to interpretation but best left pure to do what it does better than so many other varieties: express the purest essence of a time and place. We believe in Pinot Noir’s unique capacity to tell the story of a vintage and a vineyard and we craft ours with this intent.
Among the blocks of Pinot Noir in our estate vineyard, we have turned to Burgundy to help us categorize our blocks by “village”, “cru”, “grand cru”, and “premier cru” levels of quality. We look at the combination of soil type, clonal selection, and that something that you often can’t quite put your finger on, to help us determine which blocks make up each of our estate wines.
