Toast to Tradition: A Journey Through Harvest
It’s tradition to begin harvest with a celebratory toast with our Estate Sparkling wine. It was my pleasure to saber a bottle on August 30th, anointing the first bin of Chardonnay grapes before their journey to the press. This gesture symbolizes our gratitude for nature’s generous yield and the dedication our team pours into guiding the grapes from vine to vintage.
As we journey through this season, the heart of our harvest has already passed. We started with the bright and crisp Chardonnay, followed closely by our Morrito and estate Pinot Noir. Now, we patiently await our Rhône varieties – the sun-loving Grenache and Syrah. As I mentioned in May, it’s almost as if we have two harvests in one season. These grapes bask a little longer under the coastal sun, ensuring they achieve their fullest expression. This year teeters on the brink of an extraordinary and bountiful harvest, a testament to unparalleled quality that we eagerly anticipate sharing with you next year.
Speaking of unparalleled quality, this month’s release showcases our 2021 Califa Grenache, 2021 Califa Syrah, and 2021 Morrito Pinot Noir. These wines are exemplary representations from some of our estate’s most cherished vineyards. Over time, they’ve garnered acclaim as profound, vibrant wines that are delightful today yet promise further evolution in the cellar. We trust you’ll find as much joy in these wines as we do and hope you’ll share them with family and friends this holiday season.
Cheers!
