Summer Winemaking Update
As the days stretch longer and golden light lingers well into the evening, we can feel summer just around the corner, marked by vibrant flavors, ocean air, and two captivating new releases from the estate.
This May, we’re proud to share the 2025 Chamisal Estate Rosé alongside the 2024 Califa Pinot Noir. These wines not only reflect the character of their respective vintages, but also the care and intention behind every step, from vineyard to bottle.
Beginning with the 2023 vintage, our wines introduced a refreshed label design, one that carries forward into this release. A striking metallic, earth-toned line cuts across each label, inspired by our deep-rooted commitment to sustainability, while a revived logo and emblem pay tribute to the resilient native Chamise plant that thrives along our rugged coastline.
The 2025 Chamisal Estate Rosé debuts with a new look, greater clarity, and a clearer purpose. Sourced from what may be the only Grenache vineyard block in California planted and farmed specifically for rosé, this wine continues to redefine expectations. Aromas of grapefruit, jasmine, and young strawberry lead the way. Bright acidity and a soft, textured palate keep things lively. A little lees contact and partial malolactic fermentation help tame that crunchy coastal snap, while just a kiss of new oak adds lift, complexity, and a long, easy finish. The result is both precise and expressive, a Rosé crafted not just for the moment, but with the structure to evolve.
Equally compelling, the 2024 Califa Pinot Noir offers a vivid and nuanced portrait of the Morrito block, where east-facing slopes and nutrient-poor Tierra Sandy Loam soils shape the wine’s character. It opens with bright, expressive aromatics—think ripe raspberry pie, fresh Bing cherry, and a hint of milk chocolate wrapped in gentle toasty oak. The palate is lively and energetic, driven by vibrant acidity and a juicy core of red fruit, while a silky texture and fine tannins carry through to a long, fresh finish. It’s a classic Pinot Noir at heart—balanced, lifted, and effortlessly elegant.
These wines feel like a true reflection of where we are right now, thoughtful, evolving, and deeply connected to what we do.
