Our San Luis Obispo Coast Syrah showcases tantalizing notes of dark fruit, black pepper, and herbs, creating a bright and lively profile accompanied by a pleasant acidity. Its smooth and silky tannins lead to a graceful finish, while the wine itself boasts a stunning purple hue.
A perfect pairing for this Syrah includes a succulent grilled flat iron steak and a rich potato gratin.
Our San Luis Obispo Coast Syrah is predominantly made from our estate, but we also source some of the fruit from a handful of local vineyards within five miles. Inspired by the cooler climate Syrahs of the Northern Rhone, we co-ferment with a small amount of estate-grown viognier that we have inter-planted among our Syrah blocks to contribute floral lift and aromatic complexity.
Our Syrah fermentations are incredibly dark and usually more extractive. And while we are very gentle with our Pinot Noir fermentations, the Syrah needs a lot of air and calls for long pump-overs. We press the Syrah off and cherish those middle press fractions while we are typically declassifying most Pinot Noir press wine. After total fermentation time of 14 days, the wines are then racked to French oak barrels for 10 months. The Syrah here, although quite different, has gained a reputation for creating outstanding intense and age worthy wines. Don’t open this one yet, if you can resist.
